Odd Jobs / Updike
John Updike's Odd Jobs is packed with essays he's written over the years for The New Yorker. It's a companion collection to Hugging the Shoreline, which I've also read. Many of the pieces remind me of the time I first read them as a subscriber to the weekly print edition of the magazine. I had the habit back then of first paging through the edition for the cartoons, then looking for any essays or stories by Updike, and then reading the rest of the magazine.
