Schwartz's first book is titled the same and was published in 1938 when Schwartz was only 25 years old. New York intellectual circles hailed the book, making the author a well-known figure in NYC. His work received praise from some of the most respected people in literature. T. S. Eliot and William Carlos Williams considered Schwartz to be one of the most promising young writers of his generation.
